2025/3/5
On the 26th February, the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia hosted a reception to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan with the presence of more than 500 guests at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur. This year’s reception saw the attendance of leading figures from various sectors, including YB Dato’ Seri Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy Malaysia who is also the Guest of Honour, and YB Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malaysia and his spouse, Puan Sri Dati Noraini Mohd.
At the opening ceremony, YB Minister Dato’ Seri Rafizi Ramli proposed a toast to honor His Majesty the Emperor's birthday and wished for continuous development of relations between Japan and Malaysia. In his speech, Ambassador Shikata touched upon the Prime Minister Ishiba's visit to Malaysia in January this year, and expressed his commitment to further strengthen Japan-Malaysia relations in the fields of security, GX and decarbonization/energy transition, disaster prevention, and university exchange. He also thanked Malaysia for its active participation in the Osaka-Kansai Expo this year, which contributes to making the EXPO a great success. It is also worth mentioning that the Japanese and Malaysian national anthems were performed by a Japanese opera singer Ms. Saori Suzuki.
Nearly 40 organizations, including Japanese companies, local municipalities, and educational institutions proudly presented a great variety of unique Japanese products and services including live sushi performance, wagyu, sake (which is in the list of UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage), and the display of cutting-edge technology to promote decarbonization at the reception venue. Altogether, it was a great opportunity for the guests to experience authentic Japanese culture, as well as sophisticated technologies which will address global challenges, and cuisines while celebrating the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
