Ambassador Shikata paid his first official visit to UNIMAS

Ambassador Shikata visited Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and held a productive exchange on strengthening Japan–Malaysia cooperation in higher education, research, and people-to-people ties.
During the visit, the Ambassador highlighted UNIMAS’s strong expertise in biodiversity, environmental science, engineering, and medical research, and welcomed ongoing collaboration through academic exchanges, joint research, and initiatives such as the Takasago–UNIMAS Educational Forest.
Building on the long-standing friendship between Japan and Malaysia under the spirit of the Look East Policy, Ambassador Shikata expressed his hope to further deepen two-way exchanges, including welcoming more Japanese students and researchers to Sarawak, and expanding cooperation between UNIMAS and Japanese universities.
