Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2024

The Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation is initiated with the aim to recognise and honour individuals and organisations that have made tremendous contribution to promote friendship between Japan and other countries.
This year, the Embassy will confer this commendation to Mr. SEIMIYA Mamoru, Former Principal of Pusat Bahasa Teikyo, in light of his outstanding contribution to promotion of exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia.
Former Principal Mr. Seimiya has engaged in people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Malaysia through the Look East Policy(LEP), which was implemented by the Government of Malaysia. He taught Japanese to students who wish to study in Japan at the Pusat Bahasa Teikyo(PBT) in Malaysia, a preparatory education institute for the LEP students for about 20 years. He also served as the Principal of PBT from 2017 to 2023. As a staff of the institute since its early days, Mr. Seimiya established the foundation of Japanese language education at PBT and teaching methods to train younger teachers. In addition, he also developed the institute as its Principal and contributed to the promotion of Japanese language education and study in Japan under the LEP in Malaysia.
