Ambassador Shikata Attends the 43rd MAJECA-JAMECA Joint Conference

On 1 September, Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki attended the 43rd MAJECA-JAMECA Joint Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur. This joint meeting has been held by MAJECA (Malaysia-Japan Economic Association) and JAMECA (Japan-Malaysia Economic Association), both established in 1977 to deepen economic relations between the two countries in the private sector.
The meeting opened with welcome remarks from Tan Sri Azman Hashim, President of MAJECA, and Mr. Nagano Tsuyoshi , President of JAMECA. This was followed by a keynote address read by YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), a congratulatory message delivered by YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani on behalf of H.E. Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, as well as a congratulatory address read by Ambassador Shikata on behalf of H.E. Ms. Takaichi Sanae , Prime Minister of Japan.
During a special session focused on “Japan’s Growth Strategy,” Ambassador Shikata was joined by Mr. Kuremura Masuo, Special Advisor to the Minister, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Regional Head, Asia-Pacific, and Mr. Narukama Hiromitsu , President of the Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia, who all gave presentations.
The event also featured leading business figures from both countries who participated in three dynamic sessions discussing key topics such as enhancing cooperation in strategic sectors including semiconductors, AI and renewable energy. They also emphasized the importance of working together to strengthen supply chain resilience.
The joint meeting concluded with closing remarks by Datuk Seri Mohamed Iqbal, Vice-President of MAJECA, and Mr. Hyodo Masayuki , Vice-President of JAMECA.
Ambassador Shikata referred to the updated concept of the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)” and the outcomes of the Japan-Malaysia Summit held in June this year during his presentation. He also highlighted the accelerating investments by Japanese companies in Malaysia across key strategic fields of Japan’s Growth Strategy and expressed his intention to further strengthen industrial cooperation between Japan and Malaysia.
