Foreign Minister’s Commendations Award Presentation – Malaysia Kendo Association

2022/2/10
On February 9, the Embassy of Japan held an award ceremony to present the Foreign Minister‘s Commendation for FY 2021 to Malaysia Kendo Association (MKA) in recognition of its distinguished service in promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia through Kendo.

Several hundred Malaysians train Kendo at 10 MKA affiliated dojos. Since MKA was established in 1971, Malaysia has been participating in all of the World Kendo Championships, the most prestigious kendo championship globally. MKA also participates in Japanese cultural events, where they introduce not only the basic skills and techniques of Kendo, but also the spirit and attitude of Japan’s Budo (martial arts).

In his speech, Ambassador Takahashi hoped the Commendation will serve as an encouragement for the members of the MKA to work even harder during their training with the spirit of Kenshin Ichinyo – heart and sword are unified as one: if your training with the sword is conducted correctly, you will also nurture your heart correctly.
