Japan Day 2026: Empowering Advanced TVET Education Held at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA)

On 7 June, Japan Day: Empowering Advanced TVET Education was held at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). Mr. KITAOKA Tatsuya, Counsellor and Director of Japan Information Services, attended the event on behalf of the Embassy. The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE) and the Japanese Language Professional Club (JANPU) of UMPSA, with the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia. It aimed to further strengthen cooperation between Malaysia and Japan in the fields of education, culture, technology, and human resource development, while promoting the advancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
In his speech, Counsellor Kitaoka expressed his hope that the event would deepen participants’ understanding of Japanese manufacturing culture (Monozukuri) and Japanese culture more broadly, while also contributing to the further development of cooperation between Japan and Malaysia, including in the field of TVET.
As part of the programme, a TVET forum entitled “Monozukuri and the Future of TVET” was held, featuring representatives from Japanese-affiliated companies operating in Pahang and other parts of Malaysia. The speakers introduced key values underpinning Japanese manufacturing, including advanced technical expertise, a strong commitment to quality, and continuous improvement (Kaizen), and discussed how these principles can be incorporated into TVET education to nurture the next generation of skilled professionals.
The event also featured exhibitions showcasing Japanese culture, providing visitors with opportunities to experience Japan’s traditions and daily life. Cultural activities such as origami workshops were conducted, promoting a deeper understanding of Japanese culture while fostering cooperation with Japan in the fields of education, research, and industry.
It is hoped that this event will further deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia and contribute to the continued development of academic and industrial cooperation between UMPSA and Japan.
