On 7 July, Ambassador Oka delivered the keynote speech at an investment webinar hosted by HSBC. In his speech, Ambassador Oka highlighted that Malaysia offered a variety of unique advantages for investors and Japan was in fact the largest investor in Malaysia in 2019, accounting for more than one-third of the total Foreign Direct Investment inflows into Malaysia. Ambassador Oka also mentioned that the presence of an extensive network of Malaysian alumni who have studied in Japan under the Look East Policy since 1981 provided companies with a unique advantage to facilitate their operations in Malaysia
Moreover, Ambassador Oka said Malaysia had been playing a significant role in the global supply chains, especially in the E&E sector and offered a good investment opportunity to diversify manufacturing bases and to strengthen the resilience of global supply chains, which had been disrupted by Covid-19 and affected by the rising tensions between US-China.
Ambassador Oka stressed that the Embassy of Japan was ever ready to provide support and assistance to Japanese companies before and after they have invested in Malaysia.
