World Origami Day virtual celebration with Ambassador Oka

   On 11th November, Ambassador Oka joined the World Origami Day Virtual Ceremony hosted by the Malaysia Origami Academy. Ambassador Oka delivered a speech during the virtual event.

   In his speech, Ambassador Oka stated that he is pleased to join the celebration for the World Origami Day and expressed his deep respect to the “Malaysia Origami Academy”and its President, Mr. Kenneth Ch’ng for their dedicated contribution to promote Origami in Malaysia. He said that he is very happy that origami, one of the most popular Japanese traditional art, is becoming increasingly popular worldwide including among Malaysians.

   Ambassador Oka stated that origami can be beneficial to everyone, be it for educational or even industrial purpose. He said he was fascinated by a sheet of paper being folded to become a durian, which looked so real by having pointed thorns. He also highlighted how origami has inspired a Japanese renowned architect, Mr.Kengo Kuma, to design the overarching roof structure of a train station in Japan.

   Ambassador Oka further emphasized the potential benefit of learning origami at younger age, saying that origami will help children develop their imagination and stimulate their brains by using both hands and eyes in a coordinated manner.  

   Japan Origami Association designated 11th November as“Origami Day”  in 1980, 40 years ago. Malaysia Origami Academy holds annual event on the 11th Nov for the purpose of promoting Origami in Malaysia. A number of Origami fans in Malaysia with vast age-range participated in today’s event.
