Foreign Minister’s Commendations Award Presentation - Japanese Language and Linguistic Course, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya

On November 11, the Embassy of Japan held an award ceremony to present the Foreign Minister‘s Commendation for FY 2020 to Japanese Language and Linguistic Course, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya (UM), in recognition of their continuous efforts in promoting Japanese language education in Malaysia.
 
In his speech, Ambassador Oka mentioned that in the past 10 years, around 100 students have graduated from this department, who are engaged in various fields in Malaysia and even Japan, and hoped that the faculty will continue to produce talented and aspiring graduates to carry on the bilateral ties between Japan and Malaysia. Furthermore, Ambassador mentioned his wish that as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy next year, new synergies will be created by collaborating with Japan related organizations in UM.
 
Following that, Dr. Surinderpal Kaur, the Dean of Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya, in her speech stressed the importance of promoting Japanese language in Malaysia, and that this award would be a driving force for the development of Japanese language program such as promoting initiatives on double degree programmes with Japanese universities.

Every year, The Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation is awarded to recognise and honour individuals and organisations that have made tremendous contribution to promote friendship between Japan and other countries.
