2023/8/18
On 16th August, Ambassador Takahashi attended “FORUM ON 50TH YEAR OF ASEAN-JAPAN FRIENDSHIP AND COOPERATION” organized by KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific. The forum aimed to reflect on the cooperation between ASEAN and Japan in the past half century as well as discuss the possibility of cooperation in new areas between both parties in the future. The forum also focused on Japanese business philosophy to drive innovation and the understanding of Japanese values and its influence on business and society.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador Takahashi pointed out the importance of expanding the scope of Japan-Malaysia cooperation in new areas such as aging society, disaster risk reduction and decarbonization. He also emphasized that Japan and Malaysia should become partners that contribute to the stability of the world by evolving their type of cooperation from a donor-recipient relationship to mutually complementary one.
In addition, Ambassador Takahashi mentioned that Japan and ASEAN shared principles such as openness, transparency, inclusiveness and respect for international law described in FOIP(Free and Open Indo-Pacific) and AOIP(ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific). He also expressed his expectation that Japan and ASEAN will enhance its cooperation built on these principles through Japan-ASEAN Special Summit Meeting to be held this December.
