Courtesy call on Ambassador Shikata by 8th CIR of JET Programme to Hioki City

The Government of Japan implements the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, which invites young people from overseas to work for local authorities throughout Japan as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs), or Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs), thereby promoting internationalization in local communities through foreign language education and international exchange.
As a participant in the 40th JET Programme, Ms. Nurul Athirah Binti Sazalee from Malaysia has been appointed to serve as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) in Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Prior to her departure for Japan, she paid a courtesy call on Ambassador SHIKATA Noriyuki on 22 July.
Ambassador SHIKATA expressed his expectation that, through her work as a Coordinator for International Relations in Hioki City, Ms. Athirah would contribute to further deepening mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Malaysia, and encouraged her in her future endeavours.
Subang Jaya, Selangor and Hioki city have signed the agreement of the friendship city in 2012. So far, seven Malaysians have served as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) in the city.
Ms. Athirah studied in Japan during her university years. As a Coordinator for International Relations in Hioki City, she is expected to make full use of her excellent Japanese language skills and serve as a bridge between Japan and Malaysia through a wide range of international exchange activities.
