Grant of Avigan tablets to Malaysia

○ The development of therapeutic medicines is extremely important to contain COVID-19 pandemic. Avigan (manufactured and marketed by FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical Co., Ltd.) has not yet been approved to be effective against COVID-19, but many countries overseas are interested in it as a potential medicine. Japan intends to expand clinical research on Avigan for COVID-19 in cooperation with countries that wish to do so, based on requests from other countries.
○ With this in mind, Japanese government decided to provide urgent grant assistance to countries where cases of COVID-19 are occurring, and recently provided Malaysia with 2500 tablets of Avigan.
○ It is important that Avigan is medically prescribed and used appropriately, and we hope that our assistance will be of help to Malaysian patients and that this will contribute to the advancement of clinical research on Avigan.
