On 20 October, Ambassador SHIKATA Noriyuki attended as Guest of Honor the inaugural arrival ceremony held at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 to commemorate the launch of ZIPAIR Tokyo’s Kuala Lumpur–Narita service. Representatives from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and Tourism Malaysia also participated in the ceremony.

In his remarks, Ambassador Shikata expressed his appreciation to ZIPAIR Tokyo, MAHB and all stakeholders whose efforts made the launch possible, and conveyed his expectation that the new route will further expand economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Malaysia. He also noted that Malaysia is a dynamic growth engine within ASEAN and that Kuala Lumpur is a multicultural, vibrant business and tourism city, expressing hope for further promotion of two-way travel. Furthermore, highlighting the momentum generated by Visit Malaysia 2026 (to be extended through 2027), next year’s 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia, and the International Horticultural Expo “Green Expo 2027” to be held in Yokohama, he expressed his expectation that tourism and exchanges between the two countries will expand even further.
