Ambassador Oka’s Meeting with MMEA Director-General Maritime Admiral Dato’ Mohd Zubil Mat Som

On January 12, Ambassador OKA invited Admiral Maritime Dato’Mohd Zubil Mat Som, MMEA Director-General, to his residence and exchanged views on cooperation in the field of maritime law enforcement between Japan and Malaysia.
In the discussion, Ambassador OKA highly appreciated the maritime cooperation between Japan and Malaysia since the establishment of MMEA, and Dato’Mohd Zubil expressed appreciation to Japan’s long-running contribution to MMEA and the intention to initiate capacity building activities for ASEAN countries through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) in cooperation with Japan. Ambassador OKA responded that Japan will also support the third country training, and both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of maritime law enforcement.
The meeting was also attended by the present Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) expert to MMEA, Cdr. Inaba and his successor, Cdr. Tateishi as well as Mr. Takizawa, Chief Representative of JICA Malaysia Office and the senior MMEA officials. Dato’Mohd Zubil thanked Cdr. Inaba, whose posting in MMEA will end in April, for his contribution to the three-year-long capacity building project for MMEA and his expectation that Cdr. Tateishi will play an active role in the project as well.
