Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra Residence Concert
2026/4/29
On 22nd April, the Embassy of Japan co-hosted a concert with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) at the Ambassador’s Residence.
The performance featured Maestro Hirokami Junichi, Music Director of the MPO, together with Ms. Danis Akiko (piano), Ms. Emes Yukako (flute), Mr. Dylan Lee Mihn Tang (cello), and Mr. Grzegorz Curyla (horn). The program included works by Bach, Fauré, and Strauss, among others. As a highlight of the evening, Maestro Hirokami joined the performance on the melodica for Saint-Saëns’ "The Swan," which was met with warm applause from the audience.
At the MPO, Japanese musicians such as Ms. Danis Akiko and Ms. Emes Yukako, who have been with the orchestra since its early years, have long been active members. In addition, Maestro Hirokami Junichi assumed the position of Music Director in January 2025. The orchestra has also contributed to strengthening Japan–Malaysia relations through music, including joint concerts with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in September last year and April this year.
This concert, featuring the MPO and its longstanding contributions, provided a valuable opportunity to further promote cultural exchange and deepen the bonds of friendship between the two countries through music.
