Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2022

The Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation is initiated with the aim to recognise and honour individuals and organisations that have made tremendous contribution to promote amity between Japan and other countries.
 
This year, the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation will be conferred to 2 Malaysian individuals. Those representing a wide range of backgrounds were selected on the basis of their outstanding contribution to promotion of exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia.
 
The recipients are as follows:

 
 (1)   Dato’ Ts. Haji Zaihan bin Shukri, Former Director General, Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources

Dato’ Ts. Haji Zaihan has long been involved in the Government of Japan-supported industrial human resource development in Malaysia. Dato’s specific contributions include: (1) heading the training department of the Center for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training (CIAST), which was established in the 1980s with grant assistance from the Government of Japan and continuous support by JICA, since its establishment and (2) serving as the first Director of the Japan-Malaysia Technical Institute (JMTI), which trains advanced technicians who have mastered Japan's cutting-edge technologies for nearly 20 years, since its establishment. Dato’ has played a central role in the Government of Japan's efforts to develop industrial human resources in Malaysia for nearly 40 years.

 
(2)  Dato’ Haji Sahariman bin Hamdan, President of Malaysia Homestay Association

Dato’ Haji Sahariman has served as the President of Malaysia Homestay Association since 1995 and has enhanced the relationship between Japan and Malaysia through encouraging homestays from Japan to Malaysia as well as cultural exchange on Malaysian cuisine and traditional dance. Dato’ Haji Sahariman also actively participated in tourism seminars in Japan and contributed to strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation by promoting programs to experience Malaysian village life and eco-tourism.

Dato’ Haji Sahariman has also organized, as president of PAMAJA (The Alumni of Friendship Program for the 21st Century ASEAN-Japan), several Japan-Malaysia Cultural events to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP40) as well as conducted Post flood Relief Missions in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
